Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese New Year Celebrations

Chief of Defence Force, Gen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi bin Raja Mohamed Noor hosted the 2018 Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Chinese New Year Celebration on the 6th of March 2018 recently. The event took place at the Dewan Perkasa, Wisma Perwira ATM, Jalan Padang Tembak, Kuala Lumpur. More than 150 MACVS, spouses and Chinese Veterans attended the event, led by Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association (MACVA) President, Maj Tan Pau Son (Rtd).

Present to celebrate the festive occasion with the Veterans, officers and soldiers serving in Klang Valley were Chief of Army Gen Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Zulkiple bin Hj Kassim, Chief of Airforce Gen Tan Sri Dato' Sri Hj Affendi bin Buang TUDM and Deputy Chief of Navy Vice Adm Datuk Anuwi bin Hassan TLDM. Also present are senior military and civilian officers and staff from the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF).

A Lion Dance Troupe greeted the guest and everyone present with with breath taking acrobatic performance. It was a happy and jovial occasion where everyone put up their chopsticks during the “Tossing of Yee Sang”. The camaraderie and comradeship shown were fantastic. MACVA President Maj Tan Pau Son (Rtd) was invited to give his address where he gratefully thanks the Chief of Defence Force for initiating the MAF Chinese New Year Celebration back in 2014 where the formation of MACVA was first initiated. Gen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi then delivered his speech in which he registered his thanks to all Veterans for their past efforts which contributed to the development of the Armed Forces.

Maj Tan Pau Son (Rtd) also presented the MACVA Booklet and memento to Gen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi, Gen Tan Sri Dato' Sri Zulkiple, Gen Tan Sri Dato' Sri Hj Affendi TUDM and Vice Adm Datuk Anuwi TLDM at the event. MACVS who were also present includes VP Army Maj Godfrey Chang (Rtd), Hon Secretary Lt Col Wong Ah Jit (Rtd), Brig Gen Dato Hon Mun Loong (Rtd), Brig Gen Dato Gan Seng Lock (Rtd), Brig Gen Dato Ng Chin Huat (Rtd), Laksma Dato Kay Hai Thuan RMN (Rtd) and Kept Cheah Phee Cheng RMN (Rtd).

MACVA would like to express its sincere gratitude to the Chief of Defence Force, Gen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi for inviting MACVA and Chinese Veterans to celebrate this auspicious occasions. We thank all MACVS and Chinese Veterans for attending the event. We would also like to extend our thanks to Brig Gen Toh Choon Siang, Brig Gen Johnny Lim Eng Seng and the organising committee for a splendid job.

85th Army Anniversary Commemoration Church Service

MACVA Sarawak Chapter was invited by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 1st Infantry Division, Lt Gen Datuk Stephen Mundaw to attend the church service to commemorate the 85th Army Annivesary recently. The prayer service was held on 6.00 pm, 16 Mac 18 at St Mark Church, Kuching. MACVs attending the service were Lt Col Fabian Wong Boon Soon (Rtd), Lt Col Chong Kok Hing (Rtd), Lt Col John Lai Kim Chee (Rtd), Maj Foo Ah Cheng (Rtd) and 2nd Lt Fu Chee Ming (Rtd) PGB. MACVA would like to express its sincere gratitude to Lt Gen Datuk Stephen Mundaw for the invitation and congratulated him on his current promotion.

Kuala Lumpur Air Base Last Walk Down Memory Lane

About 150 RMAF MACVs visited Kuala Lumpur Air Base for a Last Walk Down Memory Lane on 6 Feb 18. The group was led by Brig Gen Datuk Goh Seng Toh RMAF (Rtd) and VP RMAF LAC Joe Pie Chong Seng RMAF (Rtd). Kuala Lumpur Air Base will be relocated to Sendayan Air Base in Seremban which will be officially open on 16 Mar 18 by the Chief of Airforce Gen Tan Sri Dato' Sri Hj Affendi bin Buang. It was a nostalgic visit by all the MACVs who have served in the base during their RMAF career.

They were received by Lt Col Kamis bin Sanwani TUDM, Ketua Cawangan Materiel who later received on behalf of Kuala Lumpur Air Base, a memento plaque from Brig Gen Datuk Goh Seng Toh RMAF (Rtd). The group was treated to light refreshment at the Wisma Bintara after the Memory Walk where VP RMAF LAC Joe Pie Chong Seng RMAF (Rtd) received on behalf of the visiting MACVs a souvenir plaque from PW U 1 Rizhaudin bin Musa, Pegawai Waran Pangkalan. MACVA would like to express its sincere gratitudes to Kuala Lumpur Air Base Commanding Officer Col Mohd Noh bin Daim TUDM and his staff for facilitating the Memory Walk.

85th Army Day

The Malaysian Army celebrated its 85th Army Day on 1 Mac 18 with a parade at the Army Basic Training Centre (PUSASDA), Port Dickson where the Chief of Army Gen Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Zulkiple bin Hj Kassim delivered the Army Day Message. The parade comprised of 159 officers, 3,630 soldiers with 12 officers and soldiers from the Mounted Ceremonial Squadron (SIB) was led by Maj Gen Hassan bin Ali, Commander of Special Service Group (GGK).

Kudos to Lt Col Ir Raymond Goh (Rtd), Maj David Chow Yun Kai (Rtd) and Capt Loo Choon Chew (Rtd) who represented MACVA at the parade. Also present at the event were Brig Gen Toh Choon Siang and Brig Gen Ho Hin Chai. MACVA wishes the Chief of Army and all his officers and soldiers a happy 85th Army Day and every success in carrying out the defence of our beloved country.

MACVA Visit 11th Infantry Brigade Commander Brig Gen Toh Choon Siang

MACVA President Maj Tan Pau Son (Rtd) and Committee Members visited 11th Infantry Brigade Commander Brig Gen Toh Choon Siang at Sg Buloh Camp recently. The purpose of the visit was to check out Sg Buloh Camp hall as a possible avenue for the next coming AGM. Brig Gen Toh Choon Siang took over command of the 11th Infantry Brigade based at Sungai Buloh, Selangor from retiring Brig Gen Brig Gen Abdul Kadir Ahmad on 6th September 2017 becoming the brigade's 21st Commander.

The Johor-born officer is married to Shirley Leong Ay Yong and is the first Chinese to command the Strategic Brigade responsible for the defence of Selangor and the federal administrative capital of Putrajaya. MACVA is very proud of his achievement and wishes him success in his command and future undertakings.

Veteran Gathering At MIECC

About one hundred MACVs attended the Veteran Gathering at Mines International Exhibiton and Convention Centre (MIECC), Seri Kembangan, Selangor. The invitation and registrations to the event by JHEV recognises the members of the Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association (MACVA) as bona fide Veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces, having served the King and Country with dedication, honour and loyalty. MACVA is happy and proud to be together in comradeship and shared values with all other Veterans associations registered with JHEV to register our hopes and expectations of due and rightful recognition and support from the Government.

MINDEF Chinese New Year Celebrations 2017

The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) hosted the Chinese New Year Celebrations 2017 on 22 Feb 17. The event was organised by the Malaysian Army at Dewan Dato' Othman Harun, Wardieburn Camp, Jalan Genting Kelang, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur where all Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans were invited. It was a gesture of gratitude to Chinese Veterans who had served the Malaysian Armed Forces over the years. More than a hundred MACVs and some with their spouses were in attendance in their colourful New Year red attires.

Gracing the auspicious occasion with their presence are the Minister of Defence; YB Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Deputy Minister of Defence; YB Dato' Sri Mohd Johari Baharum, Chief of Defence Force; Gen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, and Service Chiefs. Protem President of MACVA, Brig Gen Dr Leong Weng Foon (Rtd) was given the honour to deliver a short speech on behalf of the Chinese Veterans community.
