MACVA Courtesy Call On Director General of JHEV

MACVA lead by the President Brig Gen Datuk Goh Seng Toh RMAF (Rtd) paid a courtesy call to the Director General of JHEV, Maj Gen Dato’ Dzulkarnain bin Ahamd on 3 September 2019. Accompanied the President are VP RMN Capt Dato’ Lee Kwang Lock RMN (Rtd), VP Army Maj David Chow Yun Kai (Rtd), VP RMAF LAC Joe Pie Chong Seng RMAF(Rtd) and Hon Secretary Lt Col Wong Ah Jit (Rtd).

The President thanked the DG JHEV for giving MACVA the opportunity to update the DG JHEV on the development and the major activities of MACVA.

Among the updates was the MACVA AGM 2019 held on 30 March 2019 at the PERHEBAT, Sungai Buloh. DG JHEV was pleased to note the AGM was successfully held. The President thanked DG JHEV for the PJM Ceremony held on 16 February 2019.

DG JHEV briefed us on the proposed PJM allowance and he is optimistic the PJM allowance shall be given the approval by the Government. DG JHEV also advised those who have received PJM during the service and those who received during the early days are to check with the nearest JHEV office.

The President went on to inform DG JHEV on the two major events to be organised by MACVA. The MACVA Remembrance Day on 29 September 2019 at the Tugu Negara and the Memoirs of the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans (MoV) official launch in December 2019.

DG JHEV would like MACVA to invite other veterans associations to attend MACVA’s activities to enhance comradeship. The President informed DG JHEV that MACVA do extends its welfare assistance to veterans of other races.

The President presented a copy of MoV to the DG JHEV and once again thanked DG JHEV for making time to meet the MACVA delegation.

62nd Merdeka and 3rd MACVA Anniversary Celebrations

MACVA celebrated 62 years of the nation Merdeka and its 3rd formation Anniversary at the Heritage Club Hotel Royal Chulan Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday 28 August 2019. The patriotism shown by all veteran from all races present was in deed very heartening to see. We had Malay, Chinese, Indian, Sikh and Eurasian veterans. About 60 of us sang our hearts out on Negaraku and Inilah Barisan Kita. Followed by MACVA's President, Brig Gen Datuk Goh Seng Toh's short speech on the MACVA. The Happy Birthday song to MACVA's 3rd Anniversary. On behalf of the President of MACVA, thank you and terima kasih.

Malaysia Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association (MACVA) led by President Brig Gen Datuk Goh Seng Toh RMAF (Rtd) attended the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) Hari Raya Celebrationn on the morning of 19 Jun 19. The event hosted by Jabatan Hal Ehwal Veteran (JHEV) took ploace at the MINDEF Officer Mess at Jalan Padang Tembak, Kuala Lumpur.

Sarawak Chapter at 1st Infantry Division Commander Handing Over

Sarawak Chapter MACVs attended the 1st Infantry Division Commander Handing Over Ceremony at Kem Muara Tuang, Kota Samarahan on 20 Mar 19. Maj Gen Dato' Toh Choon Siang who will be retiring on 17 Sep 19 handover his duty to Maj Gen Dato' Md Din Abu, the 27th General Officer Comanding (GOC) of the 1st Infantry Division (1 Div). Maj Gen Dato' Toh Choon Siang hold the record as the longest serving Chinese senior officer in the Malaysian Army and would have serve for 42 years 8 months and 9 days when he retire. He took over command as GOC 1 Div on 28 May 18. The handing over was witnessed by the 2nd Army Eastern Field Commander Lt Gen Datuk Wira Zamrose bin Mohd Zain. MACVA would like to wish Maj Gen Dato' Toh Choon Siang a happy retirement and Maj Gen Dato' Md Din Abu every success in his new command.

Northern Chapter Inaugural Annual Meeting

MACVA Northern Chapter successfully held its Inaugural Annual Meeting at Safira Country Club, Seberang Jaya, Penang on 17 Mar 2019. The meeting held from 3.15 pm to 5.15 pm noon were attended by 109 MACVs from the Northern region. The meeting elected the Committee Members for the term 2019 to 2020. MACVs from RMAF, RMN and Army were nominated/ volunteered for the posts showing great camaderie and comradeship. MACVA certificates were also distributed to attending MACVs who have not received them. The strong attendance bold well for an active Commitee that will serve the Northern region. Well done MACVA Northern Chapter.

Northern Chapter Luncheon

28 MACVs from Northern Chapter attended a lunch gathering on 20 Jan 19 at Restaurant Sin Pao Siang, Jalan Melati 1, Bandar Amanjaya in Sg Petani. Besides getting together for fellowship with comrades in Sg Petani, 25 MACVs received their Membership Certificates from NC Chairman Tei Poey Eong and NC Secretary Lim Thian Huat at the event. Kudos to Northern Chapter for organising the event to enhance the comradeship and camaraderie among Northern MACVs and Tei Poey Eong for hosting the luncheon.

Maybank MyStories Unsung Heroes Dinner Reception

Maybank hosted a Dinner Reception for its 2018 MyStories Unsung Heroes on Friday, 30 November 2018. The event was held at Level 51 of Menara Maybank at Jalan Tun Perak, Pudu, Kuala Lumpur. Among the unsung heroes invited for the reception were MACVs Lt Col Ir Raymond Goh Boon Pah (Rtd) and Maj Patrick Wong Sing Nang (Rtd). Sgt Adenan bin Aini (Rtd) who had served with Maj Patrick Wong in 8th Ranger Battalion was also present. MACVA would like to congratulate all three of them for being chosen as 2018 MyStories Unsung Heroes.

In telling their stories, the sacrifices they have made and the barriers they have broken for the love of their country and fellow man, Maybank hopes to encourage Malaysians to step out of their comfort zones and be spurred into action. On the award plaque was befittingly written "Those who serve, guide and inspire the people". At 76 years old, Lt Col Ir Raymond Goh efforts in volunteer works is exemplary. Maj Patrick Wong puts his men before himself to ensure their safety with the belief that race and religion play no part in combat. He embodies the spirit of teamwork and integrity while fighting for the Country with his men.

Sgt Adenan, a proud Sarawakian who fought bravely alongside Maj Patrick Wong was one of the first from his hometown to serve in the Army. Badly injured during a mission, Maj Patrick Wong made an unprecedented decision to prioritise medical attention to him, saving his life. Sgt Adenan believes that regardless of race, religion and culture, members of the Army are ultimately part of one unit that support each other in the fight for their Country. Present at the reception were Datuk Abdul Farid Alias, Group President and CEO; Shariffuddin Khalid, Independence Non-Executive Director and Dato' John Chong Eng Chuan, Group CEO Community Financial Services. Datuk Mohaiyani Shamsudin, Maybank Chairman presented the award to the recipients. MACVA would like to express its sincere gratitude to Maybank for its efforts in honouring Malaysian Veterans.

Defence Minister YB Tuan Haji Mohamad Sabu Working Visit

Defence Minister YB Tuan Haji Mohamad Sabu made a working visit to Kem Muara Tuang, Kota Samarahan on 3 Dec 18. Representatives from Veterans Organisation were cordially invited by Pengarah JHEV ATM Sarawak Lt Col Dunging Serit to attend the visit. Representing MACVA from Sarawak Chapter were John Lai Kim Chee, David Fu PGB and Tan Meng Seng.

Also present were Eastern Field Commander Lt Gen Datuk Wira Zamrose Mohd Zain and 1st Division Infantry Commander Maj Gen Dato' Toh Choon Siang. Kudos to Sarawak Chapter for attending the event. Veterans Organisation Dialogue with JHEV Director General

MACVA participated in a Veterans Organisation Dialogue with Department of Veterans Affairs (JHEV) Director General, Maj Gen Dato' Dzulkarnain bin Ahmad at Hotel Vivatel, Kuala Lumpur on 27 Nov 18. Representing MACVA at the dialogue session were VP RMN Phua Hean Sim and Hon Secretary Wong Ah Jit. A total of 71 delegates from various Veterans Organisation under JHEV attended the dialogue which gathered problems faced by Veterans Organisation in administering their organisations and their members; and suggestions to enhance the current efforts by JHEV in administering and assisting Veterans. JHEV briefed all delegates on their way forward to look after the welfare of Veterans and their effort in forming a strategic network with Veterans Organisation.

Hj Mohamad Arbe Diamond Jubilee Birthday

MACVA Associate Member Sgt Mohamad Arbe bin Idris RMAF (Rtd) celebrated his 75 years Diamond Jubilee Birthday on 17 Nov 18. MACVA made it a very special occasion for him as a total of 96 MACVs and wives attended his birthday celebration held at his home at Kg Subang, Shah Alam. He was presented with a birthday cake and a large birthday card prepared by Mike Teoh and Vincent Lo. The large birthday card were signed by all MACVs attending the celebration. Also present to celebrate the occassion were VP RMAF Joe Pie Chong Seng, Brig Gen Dato' Goh Seng Toh RMAF (Rtd) and First Admiral Datuk Kay Hai Thuan RMN (Rtd).

Hj Mohamad Arbe had been kindly inviting his Veterans RMAF colleagues to his home for special "Nasi Lemak" for the last 2 years during his birthday and this year they returned the favour by turning up in force. It was truly and indeed a Malaysian event where a total of 96 Chinese buddies and wives came together to celebrate the birthday of a Malay colleague. During the celebration, a 'Birthday Gift' free will round was carried out where a total of RM1260.00 was collected. Brig Gen Dato' Goh Seng Toh RMAF (Rtd) presented Hj Mohamad Arbe with the 'Birthday Gift' collection and a memento plaque for the occasion. Ooi Chai Thuan presented him with the signed Birthday Card.

MACVs and wives present on this special occasion were clearly enjoying the special main dish of Hj Mohamad Arbe "Nasi Lemak", "Satay" and other delicious "Kuih-Muih" that were being served.
