MACVs with British High Commissioner Her Excellency Vicki Treadell.

British High Commission Remembrance Day Service

Some 30 MACVs and 1 spouse attended a Remembrance Day Service held at Tugu Negara on 11 Nov 18 at 7.45 am. The event organised by the British High Commission paid tribute to the fallen British and Malaysian heroes who had fought in Malaya and gave their life in doing so.

The event commenced with a speech by British High Commissioner to Malaysia Her Excellency Vicki Treadell to the invited Veterans and guests. This year's service marked the 100 years after the First World War and 70 years of the the start of the Emergency in Malaya. Commonwealth Veterans from New Zealand, Australia, India, Kenya and Ghana were present. Malaysian Veterans were represented by:-
Malaysia Ex-British Army Association (MEBAA)
Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association (MACVA)
Malaysian Armed Forces Indian Veterans Association (PERIM)
Malaysia Armed Forces Sikh Veterans Association (MAFSVA)

As a mark of respect, the Veterans association laid poppy wreaths at the base of the cenotaph and were represented by:-

Sarawak Chapter at 2nd Army Eastern Field Commander Handing Over

Sarawak Chapter MACVs attended the 2nd Army Eastern Field Commander Handing Over Ceremony at Kem Muara Tuang, Kota Samarahan on 2 Nov 18. Lt Gen Datuk Stephen Mundaw who is retiring after serving for 41 years handover his duty to Lt Gen Datuk Wira Zamrose bin Mohd Zain. The handing over was witnessed by the Chief of Army Gen Datuk Seri Ahmad Hasbullah Mohd Nawawi. MACVA would like to wish Lt Gen Datuk Stephen Mundaw a happy retirement and Lt Gen Datuk Wira Zamrose every success in his new command.

RMAF Open Day at Pangkalan Udara Kuching

MACVs attended the RMAF Open Day held at Pangkalan Udara Kuching on 27 Oct 18. The group led by VP RMAF Joe Pie Chong Seng comprises of 7 MACVs from Kuala Lumpur and 3 MACVs from Kuching. The Kuala Lumpur MACVs boarded the RMAF Flight #482, an A400 Airbus in RMAF Subang Base at 6.40 am and arrived at RMAF Kuching at 8.25 am. Present at the event were Deputy Defence Minister YB Senator Liew Chin Tong and Chief of Airforce Gen Tan Sri Dato' Sri Hj Affendi bin Buang RMAF. Those present were feasted to an acrobatic display by F/A-18 D Hornet and Sukhoi SU-30 MKM. There were also static display of fighter and transport planes.

It was a very meaningful day for the MACVs as they also visited the display and exhibition booth. Those present show tremendously comradeship and camaraderie. The event ended at 5.00 pm and the Kuala Lumpur MACVs bid farewell to their Kuching comrades before boarding a return flight at 5.30 pm and arrived at RMAF Subang at 7.05 pm. MACVA would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Chief of Airforce for invitating RMAF Veterans to the event and to Kuching Base Commander Col Masro Kaliwon RMAF for kindly hosting them. Brig Gen Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng takes over as 31st Infantry Brigade Commander

MACVA would like to congratulate Brig Gen Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng as the new 31st Infantry Brigade Commander. He takes over from Maj Gen Dato' Fadzil Tajudin at a Handling Over Ceremony held at Junaco Park Camp, Sibu on 16 Oct 18 witnessed by Maj Gen Dato' Toh Choong Siang; 1st Infantry Division Commander A total of 21 officers and 220 soldiers took part in a parade held in conjunction with the ceremony.

Lim graduated from RMA Sandhurst, England in 1986 and was commissioned into the Royal Rangers Regiment. In 2000, he attended the Australian Army Command and Staff College in Queenscliff, where he was the ‘Overall Best Student’ in the ‘Strategic Studies Module’. He holds a Master’s Degree in Defence Studies from the University of Canberra (Australia) and a Master’s Degree in Social Science from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He is a graduate of the Korean National Defence University (KNDU) and Korean Defence Language Institute.

Lim had served in the 1st, 2nd and 4th Ranger Battalions and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 2003. He was an instructor in Army Combat Training Centre (Pulada) and Staff Officer in HQ 2 Bde and HQ 3 Bde. He was promoted to Colonel in 2013 and served in the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (MIDAS) till 2015 and was promoted to Brigadier General on 8 Dec 2017. MACVA wishes Brig Gen Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng every success in his new Command.

East Coast MACVs 'Yam Char' fellowship.

East Coast MACVs Fellowship

East Coast Chapter MACVs had a fellowship get together recently on 6 Oct 18 in Kuantan. 15 Veterans from around Kuantan area caught up with each other for a 'Yam Char' session. Besides sharing fond memories of their time serving the King and Country with the Malaysian Armed Forces; they also updated each other of what they have being doing. Despite some being retired for that 30 years; everyone was alert and in high spirit.

The fellowship session also welcome 3 new senior members; Tee Book and Ooi (RMAF) and Chu Chi Him (Army) to the Chapter. Members were also presented with their Certificate and Membership card. The fellowship session was meaningful as the Chapter MACVs took time off to meet and catch up with each other which speak tremendously of their comradeship and camaraderie.
