MACVA Mid-Autumn Dinner Report
Introduction
1. The Mid-Autumn Dinner (MAD) is one of two dinners offcially programmed and organized by MACVA for its members annually. The objec ve of such dinners is to help enhance fellowship amongst member veterans. This is the biggest organized dinner besides the Chinese New Year dinner. A total of 310 members/spouse/family members attended the dinner. Among the guests invited were our MACVA Honorary Member, Tan Sri (Dr) K Thanabalasingam, President of the Sikh and Indian Associa on and Mrs Emanar, one of the MACVA Editorial Board member.

Aim
2. The aim of this report is to provide feedback on the execution versus the MACVA objective.

Plan & Execution
3. This year's MAD was held at the Sinchoiwah Restaurant on 30 Sep 2023 (Saturday). The MACVA Management Committee has appointed the VP Army, as the organizing Chairperson with the following sub-committee:
a. Sky Chen.
b. John Phoon.
c. Anthony Au.
d. George Ong.
e. Mary Koh.
f. Ko Kok Pin.
g. Cheo Yew Hock.
h. Pui Seng Tai.
i. Ang Chen Hup.
j. Liew Kang Hwa.
k. Ng Joo Chay.

4. Afer the initial negotiation with the restaurant and quotes were obtained, the cost of RM800 nett per table was decided. The OC has decided to sell RM900.00 per table or RM 90.00 per pax. The surplus is to cover expenses for the technician and other contingency expenses. No corkage charges on own liquor and wine. Besides, we also managed to get the best deal for the chilled beer from the restaurant at a nett price.

5. The menu:

- Pipa Chicken with Garlic
- Braised 'Tong Por Pork' with Special Wine
- Poach Prawn with Chinese Wine
- Fried Mix Vegetables with Pumpkin & Arrow Head

- Chinese Tea
- Vegetarian meals for 6 pax

6. The program for the night was agreed as follows:

- Mock Cheque presentation by the MACVA Charity Golf Chairman, Sky Chen to the President.
- Dinner commences.
- Session 1 - Performance by the Chinese musicians.
- Slide shows to continue. Free & easy.
- Session 2 - Performance by the Chinese musicians.
- Free and easy.
2230H - Functon ends.

Financial
7. The total collec on from the sales of tables was RM28,000.00. Total expenditure was RM29,866.10. Losses was covered by 2022 MAD profit balance of RM2,572.10. Details as follow:
a. Collecton - RM28,000.00
b. Expenditure
(1) Deposit - Restaurant RM5,300.00
(2) Deposit -Chinese Orchestra RM1,400.00
(3) Refund to Godfrey with reason RM900.00
(4) Coord Meeting Lunch at Sinchoiwah RM243.60
(5) Balance payment to Restaurant RM20,152.90
(6) Balance payment to Chinese Orchestra RM1,400,00
(7) Vegetarian meal & Misc expenses RM469.60
Total Expenditure RM29,866.10

8. The President and OC MAD would like to record our apprecia on on behalf of MACVA to the following members' sponsorship:
a. Mooncakes by Andrew Ong.
b. Cash dona on from Danny Lum (RM100.00).
c. Banner from George Ong.

Observations And Lesson Learnt
9. Overall the dinner was well organized. The camaraderie and comradeship throughout the evening were fantastic as friends and family members enjoying a sumptuous dinner and drinks. Our appreciation goes to all members especially those coming from the Northern Chapter, Ipoh Chapter, Seremban Chapter, the Southern Chapter and not forgeting the Central Chapter and the serving ofcers from the RMN.

Conclusion
10. Overall, the MAD OC has achieved the objec ve. The dinner was successfully organized and executed and most importantly everyone had enjoyed themselves though there were some hiccups from the beginning but the OC managed to sort out amicably.

Recommendation
11. For future event, there shall not be any vegetarian meal cater for individual needs unless it is organized by a table of 10. MACVA has to bear a total loss of RM433.00 for the vegetarian meals.

MACVA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2023 AND POST CNY LUNCH

The Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association (MACVA) had successfully held its AGM 2023 and Post CNY Lunch at F4 Seafood Restaurant, Jalan Subang 4, Industries Park, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor on 19 Mar 23. A total of 248 MACVs from within and outside Klang Valley attended the event with members from Penang, Perak, N.Sembilan and Melaka.

We also celebrated the birthdays of four MACVs born in the month of March. The cake cutting ceremony was led by Dr Leong Wai Foon and Khoo Beng Jin. The two cakes were shared with those present as a celebration for everyone good health.

MACVA Temporary Office Tenancy Agreement
3 Jan 23

On 1 Jan 2023 at 3pm. MACVA Management Committee (MC) headed by the President, Dato’ Lee Kwang Lock has officially signed the tenancy agreement to lease office space for MACVA with George Ong. The lease is for 5 years with a token sum of RM1 per month. Thank you to our member George Ong for his generousity and kindness for MACVA to have a temporary office until the Wisma MACVA materialised. The MC also took this opportunity to discuss a few pressing issues after the signing of the tenancy agreement. The tenancy is with effect from 1 Jan 2023 to 31 Dec 2027 and the location is at 29B Jalan Dato’ Hj Eusoff, Damai Complex, 50400 Kuala Lumpur.

The objective of such dinners is to help enhance fellowship amongst member veterans. This is the biggest organized dinner after three years due to the pandemic. Tan Sri Dr K Thanabalasingam, our Honorary Member was invited to grace the occasion. Together with the dinner, we also take this opportunity to have our Extraordinary Annual Meeting (EGM).

AIM
2. The aim of this report is to provide feedback on the execution versus the MACVA objective.

PLAN & EXECUTION
3. This year’s MAD was held at the Sinchoiwah Restaurant on 11 Sep 2022 (Sunday). The MACVA Management Committee has appointed the VP Army, as the organizing Chairman with the following sub-committee:
a. Andrew Ong.
b. Chu Ee Sin.
c. Sky Chen.
d. Anthony Au.
e. John Phoon.
f. George Ong.
g. Tony Ho.
h. Mary Koh.
i. AJ Wong.

4. The MAD Organising Committee (OC) decided from the onset that this activity will not be a MACVA fund raiser exercise neither free meal is expected. The MAD OC is not exempted. Due to the current pandemic situation, the MAD committees has decided to have only 30 tables with 10 pax for each table. ,br>
5. After the initial negotiations with the restaurant and quotes were obtained, the cost of RM880 per table was decided. The MAD OC has decided to sell RM1,000.00 per table or RM100.00 per pax. The extra is to cover fee for the technician, the Chinese instrumental troupe, purchase of mooncake and other contingency expenses. No corkage charges on own liquor and wine. Besides, we also managed to get the best deal for the chilled beer from the restaurant at nett price.

6. The program for the night was as follows:

- Presentation of memento to representative from the KL Cardiac Center. (They were not available during the MOV Launch in 8 Mac 2020).
- Dinner commences. (On going slide show).
- Session 1 - Performance by the Chinese musicians.
- MC to fill up the gap while the musicians take a break.
- Session 2 - Performance by the Chinese musicians.
- Free and easy.
10.30 pm Function ends.

CONCLUSION
7. The MAD has been a success with many members been able to meet up with old friends after a long lapse due to the pandemic. We are also glad to have members from almost all the chapters attending. The food and music were very much appreciated. A postmortem has been planned to take note of any shortcomings for the betterment of future MACVA activities.
