MACVA Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2018

Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association (MACVA) successfully held its AGM for 2018 at 11 Bde Officers Mess, Sg Buloh Camp, Sg Buloh on 24 Feb 18. About 180 participating MACVs made the trip from Johore Baru, Melaka, Klang Valley, Ipoh, Penang and Langkawi to support the event. The comradeship and camaraderie from all MACVs in attendance were fantastic.

MACVs started arriving at 8.30 am and registered for the event after which they have morning coffee. Many were busy catching up with old colleagues. Everyone assembled for a group photo in front of the Mess porch at around 10.00 am. The AGM promptly begins at 10.30 am where MACVA President Maj Tan Pau Son (Rtd) gave his opening address.

Accounts were then reported, proposals noted and nominations announced. The meeting was adjourned at 1.30 pm and lunch was served. MACVA welcome the following MACVs to the Management Committee and applauded their volunteerism:-

MACVA would like to express its sincere gratitudes to 11th Infantry Brigade Commander Brig Gen Toh Choon Siang for the usage of the Mess facilities and 11 Bde Officer Mess Staff for their kind assistance.

MACVs at Sungai Petani Club, Sungai Petani.

MACVA Northern Region Memberships Drive

MACVA Northern Region held a memberships drive at Sungai Petani Club, Sungai Petani, Kedah on 30 September 2017. The event held from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm noon were attended by about 100 Veterans from the Northern areas of Perlis, Kedah and Penang including new and sign up members. The comradeship and camaraderie from the 3 services were fantastics as seen from all those present.

A total of 32 Veterans from the Malaysian Army, RMN and RMAF sign up as MACVA life members. Also present to support the event are MACVA Advisor Brig Gen Dr Leong Weng Foon (Rtd), Kept Cheah Phee Cheng RMN (Rtd) and Army VP Maj Godfrey Chang (Rtd). This is the second sucessful memberships drive organised by MACVA Northern Region. Kudos to RMAF VP LAC Joe Pie Chong Seng RMAF (Rtd) and Maj Leong Swee Teng (Rtd) from the Northen Chapter and all those involved in organising and making the event a hugely successful one.

MACVA 1st Anniversary

More than 100 MACVs and spouses attended a dinner at Jia Wei Chinese Restaurant located at Happy Garden, Kuala Lumpur on 31 Aug 17. The event was to celebrate MACVA first anniversary since its formation on 31 Aug 2016 and since became a Tri Services Veterans Association on 18 Jun 2017. The event was hosted by MACVA President Maj Tan Pau Son (Rtd). Phase 2 of the celebration continue at Heong San Cafe where the anniversary cake cutting ceremony took place.

The atmosphere of Chinese Veterans from the three services coming together to enhance their comradeship was amazing. The traditional Chinese Yum Seng was heard throughout the dinner. Besides enjoying the sumptuous meals being served, it was an occasion for all to look back into the past one year and see how far the association has progress and also to reflect on areas which need further effort and emphasize. Thank you Mr President for graciously hosting the occassion.

MACVs infront of Hakka Restaurant, Kuala Lumpur.

Welcome Lunch At Hakka Restaurant

More than 150 MACVs attended a lunch get together at the Hakka Restaurant located at Jalan Kia Peng, Kuala Lumpur. The event was to welcome MACVA members who joined after the MACVA 19 Mac 17 AGM. The event was hosted by MACVA President Maj Tan Pau Son (Rtd). Besides those from Klang Valley, MACVs came from Penang, Butterworth, Ipoh, Melaka and Johor Bahru.

The spirit was extremely lively as some Veterans met their brother in arms for the first time in 15 years after retiring from the service. MACVs present were busy catching up with old comrades and getting aquainted with new one's from other services. It was truly a moment to be treasure as a few senior Veterans; well into their 70's were seen hugging each other. The comradeship and camaraderie exhibited were fantastic. Thank you Mr President for a jovial and memorable occassion.

MACVs at Safira Country Club, Penang.

MACVA Northern Region Veterans Recruitment

MACVA Northern Region held a membership recruitment drive at Safira Country Club, Seberang Jaya, Penang on 3 Jun 2017. The event held at 2.00 pm noon were attended by more than 100 Veterans from the Northern area inclusive of new and sign up members. Besides signing up as MACVA members, assistance were also given to Veterans who wish to apply for the Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM).

It was an atmosphere of camaraderie and this can be clearly seen from all those present. A total of 72 Veterans from the Malaysian Army, RMN and RMAF sign up as MACVA members. Kudos to all those involved in organising and making the event a hugely successful one. MACVA would also like extend its profound appreciation and thank you to everyone present at the event.

MACVA Visit HAT Tuanku Mizan

The 3rd of February 2017 is the 7th Day in the Lunar Year of the Rooster. It is '人日' (Ren Ri) and is celebrated as Everybody Birthday, an auspicious day in the Chinese culture. MACVA has chosen this meaningful day to visit the patients at Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan as a social responsibility and a gesture to share the greetings and joy of the Chinese New Year.

MACVA were represented by its Protem President, Brig Gen Dr Leong Weng Foon (Rtd), Deputy President, Lt Col Fabian Wong Boon Soon (Rtd), CMs and wives. Some 82 patients received goodie bags and angpows in the Malaysian spirit of sharing and giving. They ranged from young infants to the elderly, including a 92 year old World War II veteran, Private Ujang bin Mormin.

MACVA would like to extend our gracious thanks to the Commanding Officer of the HAT Tuanku Mizan, Brig Gen Dato' Dr Zulkeffeli bin Mat Jusoh and his staff for accommodating and generously facilitating the visit.
