Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association (MACVA) meet up with China Press at MACVA office at the Boulevard, Mid Valley City on 23 Aug 18 at 2.30 pm. Earlier that morning, MACVA met up with Sin Chew Daily at 11.00 am at their office in Kuala Lumpur. MACVA President Maj Tan Pau Son (Rtd) was present at both meeting to highlight the Malaysian Army Young Soldier Special Recruitment for Chinese which will be held on 29 Aug 18 at Dewan Sri Subramaniyam, Jalan Kuala Ketil, Sungai Petani, Kedah. The one day recruitment will be held from 8.00 am till 5.00 pm where MACVA will be assisting the Recruitment Team from the Army Department of Personnel, Ministry of Defence. MACVA extends its sincere gratitude to Sin Chew Daily and China Press for assisting in informing the public of this event through their news publication and online news portal.

Chinese Youth Recruitment Meeting With Cawangan Sumber Manusia Tentera Darat (CSM TD)

MACVA had a meeting with CSM TD Team headed by Col Hassan bin Embong on 9 Aug 2018 at MACVA office at the Boulevard, Mid Valley City. The discussions centered on MACVA's cooperation and assistance in encouraging more Chinese youth to join the Army in CSM TD forthcoming Young Soldier Recruitment in all States including Sabah and Sarawak. It is an honour and a timely recognition given to MACVA by the Ministry of Defence. Those present at the meeting were:-

YB Senator Liew Chin Tong as Deputy Defence Minister

Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association (MACVA) would like to welcome YB Senator Liew Chin Tong as the new Deputy Defence Minister. Born on 27 November 1977 at Subang Jaya, Selangor, he had his early education at Kwang Hua Private High School. He pursued his tertiary education at Australian National University and graduated with Bachelor of Asian Studies (Hon) and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2004. He later obtained International Masters in Regional Integration at Asia-Europe Institute, University of Malaya in 2006.

He was Executive Director of Penang Institute; previously Socio-Economic and Environmental Research Institute (SERI) from 2009 to 2012 and Executive Director of Research for Social Advancement (REFSA) from 2007 to 2011. He was also Former Visiting Research Fellow, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) in Singapore.

MACVA congratulate him as the first Malaysian Chinese to be appointed to this position and wishes him well and every success in assisting the Ministry of Defence to effectively and efficiently manage Malaysia National Defence. We also look forward to the Ministry giving out more assistance to Armed Forces Veterans who have contributed to the development of the Malaysian Armed Forces since its establishment and to the sovereignty, well-being and stability that the nation enjoy today.

UiTM Merdeka Video Shoot

UiTM students from Shah Alam had a Merdeka Video Shoot session with MACVs recently. The Video session was a Community Service Project by a group of 24 students that are embarking on their Co-curriculum module. The shooting took place at Darul Redzuan Museum in Ipoh on 16 Jul 18. Leading the students was Encik Ku Hadzrill Jeeffry bin Ku Hamzah, Senior Co-curriculum Officer and his staff. Two MACVs who were born before Merdeka was present to shared their experiences while serving with the Malaysian Armed Forces.

WO 2 Lee Ah Like (Rtd) and Sgt Leong Swee Thin (Rtd) both joined the 1st Federation Regiment in 1958. They retired on 17 Dec 1983 and 12 Dec 1980 respectively. Both have experiences with Malaysian Special Forces that served ONUC (Organisation des Nations Unies au Congo) in the 1960's. MACVA would like to thank UiTM for inviting MACVs to participate in this Community Service Project and are very happy to see that Young Graduate students are taking an interest in Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans and finding out their contributions towards Hari Merdeka.

YB Haji Mohamad Sabu as Minister of Defence

Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veteran Associations (MACVA) would like to welcome YB Haji Mohamad Sabu as the new Minister of Defence. Born on 14th October 1954 in Tasek Gelugor, Penang; he had his early education in the state before continuing his studies at the Institut Teknologi Mara, now Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM). He is also the new Member of Parliament for Kota Raja in Selangor.

MACVA wishes him well and every success in leading the Ministry of Defence to effectively and efficiently manage Malaysia National Defence. We also look forward to the Ministry giving out more assistance to Veterans that have served the King and Country and contributed to the development of the Malaysian Armed Forces.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the 7th Prime Minister of Malaysia

Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veteran Associations (MACVA) would like to congratulate Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for becoming the 7th Prime Minister of Malaysia. He was sworn in by the His Majesty The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong XV Sultan Muhamad V at a ceremony that took place at Istana Negara at 9.30 pm today. His delegation comprising Pakatan Harapan four parties coalition's leaders which are Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Haji Mohamad Sabu, Mr Lim Guan Eng and members.

Pakatan Harapan with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Chair Person was successful in winning the Malaysian 14th General Election held on 9 May 18 by a simple majority. At 92 years old, he will be returning as Prime Minister for a second time and also be the oldest Prime Minister in the world. MACVA would like to wish him and Pakatan Harapan well and every success in forming the New Government in Putrajaya.

The wishes of the Malaysian Rakyat in this election have been make known and must be respected. In this New Dawn of Malaysia, MACVA call on all parties to close rank and support the New Government in carrying out the aspirations of the Rakyat. We look forward to seeing a Bersih Government that will put the welfare of the Rakyat first and also to look into the plight of Veterans that have served the King and Country with pride and dignity.
