His Royal Highness Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales visited the Taiping War Cemetery on 4 November 2017. Along with other guests and fellow Veterans on that auspicious day, seven Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans (MACVs) and wifes gathered at location by 11.00 am admist a cool Taiping morning. Following a slight drizzle His Royal Highness (HRH) arrived at 1.20 pm in a black limousine.
He was given a walking tour of the graves by Paul Price, Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) Commissioner and Colonel Stephen Hall, British Defence Advisor to Malaysia. He visited the Muslim and Buddhist graves and laid a wreath at the Stone of Remembrance and observed a moment's silence.
He also visited the Christian graves and laid a wreath at the Cross of Sacrifice and bowed before observing a moment’s silence. Two soldiers from the Royal Gurkha Rifles Brunei trumpeted the Lastpost. In attendance are Datuk Seri S.K. Devamany from the PM Department, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and General Office Commanding of 2nd Malaysian Infantry Division Major General Dato Mohd Ramli Jaafar. Also present are former Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Zahidi Hj Zainuddin (Rtd).
During the refreshment session at a nearby tent, HRH spent time chatting with some 60 Veterans comprising representatives from:-

National Malaya & Borneo Veterans Association (NMBVA)
Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association (MACVA)
Malaysian Armed Forces Indian Veterans Association (PERIM)

Taiping Veterans Association
Ipoh WIRA Association Malaysia and
Penang Veterans Association (PVKPP).
His Royal Highness Prince Charles chats with MACVs and they were impressed with his patience, thoughtfulness and dignified nature.

"Brigadier General Dato' Lau Kong Cheng (Rtd), a Malaysian Air Force veteran who served in the Malayan emergency, said veterans had travelled from far and wide to meet the Prince. He asked us about where we had served and was very interested in listening. It's a great honour."
"First Admiral Datuk Kay Hai Thuan (Rtd), Vice President of the Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association, said: He was very pleased to see all the veterans here. For His Royal Highness to come and see this is quite something. The families of the people buried here, will be very proud and honoured."
He signed the Visitors Book before leaving by helicopter for an audience with HRH Sultan Nazrin Shah at Istana Iskandariah in Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar. The event were joinly organised by the British High Commission and Perak State Secretariat assisted by 2nd Malaysia Infantry Briged. MACVA are very honoured to be invited to this historic occasion and would like to register our profound thanks to the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.
