Tunku Abdul Rahman University College Career Fair

Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC) Career Fair Held At Dewan Utama
On 21 November 2017

The Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association (MACVA) was invited by TAR UC to participate in their Career Fair on 21 Nov 17. This was the fourth such invitation this year. It was the continued intention of MACVA to jointly participate with the Recruiting Team from Human Resource Division, Ministry of Defence (HRD Mindef). However, HRD Mindef were unable to participate this time around due to unforeseen circumstances.

At a wedding dinner, MACVA through the old boy network with serving officers, managed to secure assistance and backing from the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) to replace HRD Mindef. The Chief of Navy, though overseas, was kind enough to grant approval immediately when informed of MACVA’s dilemma. He dispatched his personnel from Tim Promosi RMN within 48 hours of his instructions to fully support MACVA.

Throughout the day, it was estimated more than 200 students dropped by MACVA/RMN booths for enquiries. We could see the students were more receptive and convinced this time around. The pay, allowances, perks benefits of the Armed Forces Scheme and the success stories as told by our veterans appeared the encouraging factors.

TAR UC President, YBhg Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok and his Vice President, Dr Chook Ka Joo together with the Board Members were very delighted with the RMN’s participation. The direct involvement of MACVA to encourage and engage Malaysian Chinese youths to join the Armed Forces as a prestigious career, and thereby help contribute towards nation building was acknowledged.

It is MACVA’s aim to help create awareness through the sharing and highlighting of the vast experiences of MACVA’s 800 over veteran members of all ranks from the Army, Navy and Air Force, as living examples for youths to emulate. We are confident that these noble and continuous efforts, with the strong support from Mindef, shall see more of Chinese and Malaysian of all races joining the Armed Forces.

This was one of our very best joint public presentations so far, this is in spite of the short 48 hours’ notice given to the RMN. We wish to record our appreciation to YBhg Rear Admiral Ganesh Navaratnam RMN, who provided extensive personal cooperation to help MACVA make the joint participation with the RMN very worthwhile indeed. We wish also to record our appreciation to Kept Yusne Mokhtar RMN, Director of Human Resource, and his Tim Promosi headed by Lt Wan Mohd Hanafi Wan Ramli RMN for exhibiting professionalism and cooperation throughout.

More enquiries during the afternoon session.
CPO Chen Ka Kim RMN (Rtd) sharing his experience & success story to serving officers.

It is our hope that the Malaysian Armed Forces and RMN shall eventually meet their objective of recruiting more Malaysians of all races to serve. MACVA is looking forward to continue joint long termed support and make our CYR Objective a success.

We were invited merely to create awareness and job opportunity to the Chinese students. The response both from the university and the students were very encouraging.

More than 200 students dropped by our booth, initially with an inquisitive mind, unsure and confused. But after the explanation from our team on the terms of service, pay according to rank structures, perks, allowances and other benefits, life before and after service, they were very surprised and wanting to know more.

TARUC Board Members, headed by the Vice President of Student Affairs & Quality Assurance, Dr Chook Ka Joo visited our booth on the first day of the fair. He said TARUC will continue to engage the Armed Forces and MACVA in such program. We were told the last Career Fair in Mac 2017 which we had participated, 120 students had signed up joining Regt 515 AW. He is very pleased with our efforts. He proposed to conduct another “Military Career Talk” in Mac 2018, involving about 200 students whom shall be graduated in Feb and Jul 2018 respectively. The talk is important and timely not only as an exposure what the Armed Forces could offer but as a career option for some.

TARUC has been very keen and supportive in our effort to recruit Chinese youth into the Armed Forces since we had our first meeting on 27 Oct 2016. It is hoped that such program would continue to cherish and eventually to attract more Chinese joining the Armed Forces.
