MACVA Attend Remembrance Day Service At Taiping War Cemetery

MACVA was invited by the British High Commission for the Remembrance Day in Taiping on the 12 Nov 2023 through our President, Captain Dato' Lee Kwang Lock (R) Navy. MACVA members attended the event led by Hon Sec, Tony Ho Weng Kong (R) Navy, CM Captain Pui ST (R) RMAF, Captain Benjamin Au (R) Army, Captain Edwin Chong (R) Army and Lt Ng Thian Yew (R) Navy. The trip to Taiping by road on the 11 Nov 2023 was awful which took us 8 and a half hours due to the long Holidays and festive season.

The Memorial Ceremony started at 0730 blessed with beautiful weather and the arrival of invited guests including the Diplomat Heads and the Defense Attache's among others. The event started with the opening speech by the British High Commissioner to Malaysia , Ms Ailsa Terry, CMG then followed by the simple programmes including the Sounding of the Last Post and Two Minutes Silence observed. After which, the British High Commissioner led the wreath laying ceremony at the Memorial then followed by others in turn, including MACVA members conducted by CM Captain Pui ST (R) RMAF and Captain Benjamin Au (R) Army.

The ceremony completed at around 0900 and all participants adjourned to the Kamala Lodge just across the road for breakfast and interactions.

On the way back to KL, we stopped by Lt. Col Chua Eng Lye (R) Army's place for a courtesy visit and to assist him in his medical conditions and to sort out his other predicaments. Subsequently, the journey back to KL was uneventful and all arrived home safely at night after the long and hectic days. Many thanks to Hon Sec, Tony Ho Weng Kong (R) Navy in providing the transportation for the trip.

On 25 Apr 2023, Tuesday, MACVA headed by the President, Dato' Lee Kwang Lock and 4 other members (VP Army, Carol Loo, CM Pui Seng Tai, Hon Sec Tony Ho and member John Soon) attended ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Cheras Christian Cemetery, Commonwealth War Graves Site. Among those invited for the wreath laying were:-

- The High Commissioner of New Zealand - Host.
- Deputy Head of Mission Australian High Commission.
- Ambassador of the Rep of Turkey.
- Deputy Head of Mission UK High Commission.
- MGD Johnny Lim from MAF.
- DA High Commission of India.
- Ambassador of France.
- Ambassador of the USA.
- Dato' Peter Tan, Mal/Australia Business Council.
- Mrs Bridget from the Mal/Australia/New Zealand Association.
- MACVA.

The ceremony started with opening address by the New Zealand High commissioner, HE Pam Dunn, then 'Words From The Past' by the First President, Turkish Republic, followed by wreath laying, sounding of the Last Post, 2 minutes silence, the Reveille and National Anthems of New Zealand, Australia and Malaysia. The ceremony concluded with 'Gunfire breakfast' at the New Zealand High Commissioner's resident.

During breakfast MACVA took this opportunity to present our Memoirs to New Zealand High commissioner. Last but not least, our compliments to CM Pui for making today's event a success and keep MACVA's flag flying.

Remembrance Day Service At Taiping War Cemetery

The British High Commission hosted a service of remembrance at Taiping War Cemetery on Sunday 13 Nov 22 to remember those who served their countries in both World Wars and other conflicts since. Presents were the High Commissioner Charles Hay and Defence Advisor Captain Antony Stockbridge with diplomatic guests, representatives from the Malaysian Armed Forces, Malaysian Veterans Associations, local societies and schools.

Representing Malaysian Armed Forces was Maj Gen Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng while MACVA were represented by:
VP RMN Sky Chen Ka Kim;
Honsec Tony Ho Weng Kong;
Hon Treasurer Mary Koh;
CM Wong Kwasi Yinn;
CM Ng Joo Chay.

The service begin at 8.00 am with the High Commissioner address and followed by a reading of ‘In Flanders Fields’, delivered by Mr. Paul Baker, British Veteran and ‘The Soldier by Rupert Brooke’ by Veerayah A/L Subramaniam, SM of Polis DiRaja Malaysia. Defence Advisor, Captain Antony Stockbridge then performed a reading of the ‘For the Fallen’ by Robert Laurence Binyon. After observing two minutes of silence in respect of the fallen heroes, the ceremony ended with the traditional laying of wreaths at the base of the Cross, a solemn tribute to those who gave their lives in the name of peace.

Warriors Day Celebration 2022

Malaysia celebrated Warriors Day 2022 on Sunday 31 Jul 22. Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah and Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah attended the event at Dataran Pahlawan Negara, Putrajaya. This year celebration parade comprises of 58 officers and 867 ranks from the MAF and PDRM together with 152 veterans from PVATM and Police Veterans. MACVA President Dato' Lee Kwang Lock and Hon Treasurer Mary Koh attended the event at Putrajaya. Hornbill MACVs attended the celebration in Kuching and Melaka MACVs lay a wreath at Straits Settlement Volunteer Force Memorial. The celebration was in honour of Veterans from MAF and PDRM and all who that have served and defended the nation sovereignty with dedication with some giving their lives and some losing their limbs. Without these sacrifices, the nation will not have enjoy the peace and prosperity that it possessed today. The nation should always be thankful and proud of them. MACVA would like to wish all Veterans a Happy Warriors Day.

80th Anniversary of The Battle of Kampar

The Malaysian Armed Forces Sikh Veterans Association (MAFSVA) held a Remembrance Memorial for the 80th Anniversary of The Battle of Kampar at Green Ridge Battle Site Kampar on the morning of 30 Dec 21. 34 Indian troops from the 1/8th Punjab Regiment fighting with the British fell while delaying the advance of the Japanese Army on the day in 1941. The Guest of Honour was HE Shri B.N.Reddy Ji, High Commiosioner of India. Representing MACVA at the wreath laying ceremony was Maj Wong Kwai Yinn (Retired). MACVA would like to express its sincere gratitude to the President of MAFSVA Maj Baldev Singh (Retired) for inviting MACVA and Malaysian Veterans to the event.

MACVs attended a Remembrance Day Service held at Cenotaph, Tugu Negara this morning at 7.45 am. The event organised by the British High Commission paid tribute to the fallen British and Malaysian Veterans who lost their lives fighting for Malaya. MACVA would like to express its sincere gratitude to the British High Commission for inviting MACVs and Malaysian Veterans to the event.

British High Commission Remembrance Day Service

Some 30 MACVs and 1 spouse attended a Remembrance Day Service held at Tugu Negara on 11 Nov 18 at 7.45 am. The event organised by the British High Commission paid tribute to the fallen British and Malaysian heroes who had fought in Malaya and gave their life in doing so.

The event commenced with a speech by British High Commissioner to Malaysia Her Excellency Vicki Treadell to the invited Veterans and guests. This year's service marked the 100 years after the First World War and 70 years of the the start of the Emergency in Malaya. Commonwealth Veterans from New Zealand, Australia, India, Kenya and Ghana were present. Malaysian Veterans were represented by:-
Malaysia Ex-British Army Association (MEBAA)
Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association (MACVA)
Malaysian Armed Forces Indian Veterans Association (PERIM)
Malaysia Armed Forces Sikh Veterans Association (MAFSVA)

As a mark of respect, the Veterans association laid poppy wreaths at the base of the cenotaph and were represented by:-
